Disc Profiling
DISC Profiling
DISC is the leading personal assessment tool used by millions of individuals and organisations to help enhance communication skills, build stronger relationships and improve teamwork and productivity in the workplace. DISC measures the behaviours and motivations of individuals, as well as highlighting personal skills and abilities.
It is an excellent tool for individuals looking to identify their preferred communication style and understand their own strengths and developmental areas. It is also an excellent solution for organisations looking to develop the potential of their employees and increase productivity.
We all have difference preferences in terms of how we like to communicate and how we like people to communicate with us. By understanding our preferences and those of others we can quickly adapt our natural communication style to build rapport with anyone quickly, effectively and consistently, therefore avoiding any potential conflict.
The 4 core DISC behaviours measured are:
Dominance – How we respond to problems and changes
Influence – How we respond to people and relationships
Steadiness – How we respond to pace and consistency
Compliance – How we respond to procedures and constraints
The History of DISC
DISC is an acronym that stands for the four main personality profiles described in the DISC model. DISC was first created by Dr William Marston in 1928. Dr William Moulton Marsten was a lawyer and a psychologist who contributed to the first ever polygraph test. He conducted research on human emotions and found that people illustrated their emotions using four behaviour types, Dominance, Inducement, Submission and Compliance.
Then in 1956, an industrial psychologist, Walter V Clarke, constructed an assessment which confirmed Marston’s theory of the DISC model, and he renamed the four behavioural types to Dominance (or drive, RED), Influence (or persuasive, YELLOW), Steadiness (or supportive (GREEN), Compliance (or correct, BLUE).
How Does DISC Profiling Work?
You will complete an online profiling assessment which will produce a detailed report depicting your DISC type and a detailed characterisation of your personality profile. The report will also include graphs showing your personal blend and preferred communication style. I will interpret the results and feed them back to you in a 1:1 setting to ensure that you have a full and concise understanding of your personality assessment.
By taking a DISC Profiling test, you will be able to:
raise your own self-awareness regarding personal strengths and developmental areas
communicate with others more efficiently
create stronger, more effective relationships with others
know your motivators and greatest fears
build a greater depth of trust with others
understand your leadership style
realise your personality goals
learn your instinctive response to pressure
recognise signs of and therefore avoid tension and potential conflict
