5 Signs That Stress May Be Damaging Your Health
Stress is all around us and most of us are in a constant state of stress on a daily basis as our lives are now so hectic and demanding. Stress can be defined as the body’s nonspecific reaction to any demands for change.
Stress can be manageable but can often lead to anxiety and other health issues if left unresolved. If stress persists then your body will remain in a constant heightened state of alertness and will eventually adapt to managing high levels of stress. Stress hormones will be continually released through your body and your heart rate and blood pressure will remain high and your health will become compromised. Other symptoms you may experience are issues with concentration, frustration and irritability.
When you have suffered from periods of prolonged stress, this may result in chronic stress and exhaustion. Your body will suffer fatigue, depression, anxiety, a feeling of burnout and a low tolerance for dealing with current stress or taking on any new stress.
Below are some of the signs of prolonged stress that you may be experiencing:
⦁You Worry Constantly
You have constant worrying thoughts that make you feel anxious, on edge and have difficulty concentrating.
⦁Your Chest or Throat Feels Tight and Constricted and Your Muscles are Always Tense
You feel like you have a constant adrenaline rush and that you are finding it difficult to breath normally as your heart is beating faster and harder and your muscles are always tense.
⦁You Have a Lower Than Usual Tolerance to Stressful Situations
You are finding that you are irritable, frustrated, have a short fuse and can have outbursts and arguments at the slightest issue.
⦁You Feel Helpless and Useless
You feel that you are not good enough and full of self doubt. You are constantly tired and lacking in self confidence.
⦁You Feel Tearful or Angry Most of the Time
Small things are making you angry or tearful, you feel on edge, tetchy and in a constant state of anxiety.
If you recognise any of the above signs then it would be beneficial for you to start practicing techniques and coping strategies to calm your autonomic nervous system down to prevent the constant release of stress hormones.
